Forged Carbon Fiber in Rapid Manufacturing Using Carbon Fiber Fabric Waste

Abstract

Substantial fabric waste is generated during the production of carbon fiber composites. Its small fragment size prevents reuse in lamination processes. Following appropriate processing, the fibers can be reused as separate fibers in the production of carbon fiber composites by compression molding. This paper presents the methodology and calculations required to make a part in a rapid manufacturing scenario. The manufactured part was tested for tensile strength.
